The lights below twinkle through the trees
each popping on and off, on and off between the leaves
we ride on air, four thousand feet thick
rising up, until the lights begin to fade
as a blanket obscures the town below
when suddenly, a hungry cloud grabs hold
shaking us in its powerful jaws
but we push through, trembling in its menacing grip
until we rise above, floating smoothly
only to meet yet another thrashing monster
as we get machine-washed cold again
until a solitary light peeks through the cloud
a ray of hope from the lone farmhouse below
and we soar free into the boundless night sky
